Question: What are blackheads?

Blackheads are a common form of blemish that typically appear on the oilier t-zone area of the forehead, nose and chin, but can also occur on the chest and back. Specifically, they are open comedones – small bumps that appear when a pore is blocked with sebum (oil) and/or dead skin cells, dirt and bacteria.

Question: What is the cause of blackheads?

Answer: Blackheads can be caused because of various reasons. The most common reason is if your body produces excess oil then your pores are prone to get clogged and result in blackheads and whiteheads. Another main reason is hormonal changes in the body that triggers the oil glands to produce excess oil which is likely to clog your skin pores.

Question: What are comedones?

Answer: A comedone is a clogged pore. When the dead skin cells along with the sebum and oil blocks hair follicle in the skin it forms a small bump or skin lesion. Closed comedones are whiteheads when the follicle is completely blocked.  When a comedone is open, it oxidizes on coming in contact with the oxygen and appears black in color.

Question: Why do we have dark spots on our nose?

Answer: The blacks spots on the surface of the nose are nothing but blackheads. So when the pores get clogged with sebum, dead skin and bacteria on coming in contact with oxygen get oxidized and thus give a black appearance.

Question: What causes the pores to clog?

Answer: The pores in your skin can get clogged because of the oil produced by the skin, dry or dead skin cells, and dirt.
